This narrow street remains a 2Way East West Rat Run. Too many cars and lorries career through this street at way above the 20km speed limit (first 20km street in London) Also it is a major cycle and pedestrian route. Christopher Hatton Primary is just around the corner and Coram Fields just down the road. This street has been closed to through traffic on numbers of occasions for major works and this was better all around and did not impact on traffic as through-traffic found other ways to get to the other side of London, not through narrow Calthorpe St. - instead turning at Phoenix Place and not being allowed in via Grays Inn Rd.

Calthorpe St has remained the 2Way Rat Run East/West for through traffic! where the speed limit is invariably ignored (20km -first in London) and lorries career through wo thinking. It is already a vital cycle route and pedestrian route. The through traffic is unacceptable and reckless too with Christopher Hatton Primary just around the corner and Coram Fields a little further down the road. It has been closed for major works many times and it worked very well.

There are very high volumes of traffic in this road. Various schemes implemented by Camden and TfL of these have only served to increase congestion e.g. constructing a Boris bike stand in part of the road that used to accommodate a lane of traffic and expanding the pavement outside Gap entirely unnecessarily so as to facilitate a flower seller to sell flowers from a barrow. As a result of these “improvement” schemes the street is now one permanent traffic jam. Since Camden can’t/won’t reduce the traffic flow, it should remove all the clutter from the road to allow two lanes of traffic to flow all the way through and stop poisoning Camden residents and visitors.
