Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation in July 2022 on the permanent scheme you can read the decision report.
What is the challenge on Kilburn High Road?Kilburn High Road is a major road with significant amounts of motor vehicles using this route. It has also had a very high number of road traffic casualties in recent years; with 54 pedestrian casualties recorded between 2016 and 2018, of which 2 were fatal and 11 serious. As well as being a major A-road, the road is an important bus route with the lower part of Kilburn High Road carrying five bus routes.
We are working in partnership with Brent Council and Westminster City Council to transform the town centre for pedestrians and shoppers and improve the very poor road safety record of this road. This scheme will help to deliver the Councils’ transport priorities including increasing walking and cycling, improving air quality and making our streets and transport networks safe, accessible and inclusive for all.
What are we doing?Following the public consultation we have made the decision to go ahead with a permanent scheme, we are making changes to the lower part of Kilburn High Road to improve road safety, provide better walking and cycling infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, and improved bus priority infrastructure making your journeys more efficient.
The permanent changes include:
